The 1830 Newcomb 9 Large Cent is one of the "Hiccup 0" varieties (so-named because the 0 of the date was placed high in the die relative to the other digits, presumably as the engraver hiccuped). This particular variety is very, very rare and is on most collectors' want lists. The PCGS XF40 illustrated above is the second finest known (the finest example is slightly finer but has never appeared at auction, nor has it been certified by PCGS).
