The 1865 Plain 5, Doubled Die Obverse (FS-101)
The FS-101 Doubled Die Obverse (PCGS #38250–38252) is one of two collectible Doubled Die Obverse varieties for this year listed in The Cherrypickers' Guide. Strong doubling is visible throughout the motto, particularly on the lettering. Additionally, a prominent raised line located above the word "IN"—the result of a die gouge—serves as a key diagnostic "pickup point" for this variety.
