The 1865 Plain 5, Repunched Date Variety

The FS-301 Repunched Date (PCGS #38253–38255) displays a faint "1" positioned between the 1 and the 8 of the date. While identifiable, this feature is most easily observed with the assistance of a loupe. According to the Cherrypickers' Guide, this obverse die was married to at least two different reverse dies, and some specimens were struck with a significantly rotated reverse.
