Ron Guth:

LM-10.3 is a die state of LM-10, and the rarest of four such die states.  Careful study of the dies and the edge redding indicates that this variety was struck in 1833, after most of the 1833 Half Dimes had already been struck!  This was not an unusual situation for the time, but it shows that the "rule"that coins were struck only in the year of issue is not steadfast.

High grade examples of this die state have been elusive.  The coin pictured above is one of the finest known.
