Charles Morgan:

1875-S Liberty Seated Twenty-Cent Piece, “Misplaced Date,” FS-301

The 1875-S Liberty Seated Twenty-Cent Piece (FS-301, #395943) is a misplaced date variety featuring the remnants of a digit—likely an 8—visible in the denticles below the primary 8 in the date.

The finest known example is the Eugene Gardner specimen, graded PCGS MS67. While this specific coin was originally submitted through a standard tier and is currently reflected in the "normal" 1875-S population report, a close-up inspection from its Heritage Auctions appearance clearly confirms the misplaced date.

For the coin to qualify as a variety in the PCGS Set Registry Program, however, it would have to be submitted through our Variety Attribution Program.
