J-A1857-5 is an impression from the hub for a $20 gold piece. The design work has been attributed to Anthony Paquet, who was working on Half Dollar patterns as early as 1858. Though J-A1857-5's are undated, they were assigned to 1857 by Judd, who used his best guess to try to figure out how these pieces fit into the pattern sequence. Whether they were made in 1857 or 1858 is moot, as only two examples are known, and their extreme rarity overshadows all other considerations. The first piece appeared on the market in a Bowers & Merena sale in 9/1989. At the time, it was unlisted in Judd and was considered unique. Since then, another piece appeared on the market in a Stack's/Bowers sale in 8/2011, where it was graded as PCGS MS62BN -- it is clearly the better of the two known examples.
