Ron Guth:

Some New Jersey Copper coins show a reverse with PLURIBUS misspelled as "PLUKIBUS". This only occurs on one reverse die (Dr. Maris's "b" reverse). On early die states, the top of the R of PLURIBUS is partially connected by a thin strand. In later states, the strand fades until it eventually disappears, leaving the R looking like the letter "K".

The PLUKIBUS reverse was combined with three different obverse dies: Maris 17 (Rarity 3), Maris 38 (Rarity 6+), and Maris 40 (Rarity 5+).

Many, if not most, of the PLUKIBUS New Jersey Copper coins were struck over other coins, including Connecticut Coppers, counterfeit Irish Halfpennies, and even a French Sou.

The finest examples of the PLUKIBUS New Jersey Copper are two Uncirculated examples: one from the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection and another from the Garrett Collection
