Judd-1177 is an aluminum version of an 1871 $20 struck from the dies used to create normal Proofs in gold. Saul Teichman suggests that these were sold as part of complete sets of all denominations in aluminum, similar to the sets known to have been sold in 1868. One such set of 1871 copper, aluminum, and nickel patterns was offered in Pine Tree Auction Co.'s 3/1974 sale, where the coins were offered on an individual basis.
We know of two different examples (one a non-Cameo), and one or two more are suspected. The finest example is the wonderful PCGS PR67CAM in the Simpson Collection (see image above)
