Ron Guth:

One of the most famous and popular of all the Bust Quarter Dollars is the unique 1823/2 in Proof. As noted in the Condition Census listed above, this coin has caught the attention of many major collectors, including Waldo Newcomer, Jerome Kern, R.L. Miles Jr., and Reed Hawn. This coin was one of the highlights of the Dr. Juan Suros Collection, one of the greatest collections of overdated coins ever assenbled.

This coin has been off the market since 1999, when it sold for $138,000. It is the finest example of this date, by far, and it is the cover image on Steve Tompkins' book, "Early United States Quarters, 1796-1838."
