1880 was another small-mintage year for Half Dollars. Only 8,400 were struck for circulation and 975 as Proofs. As in 1879, most of the 1880 Half Dollars are Prooflike, some deceptively so, and values are nearly identical for both dates in most grades. However, the 1880 is not as plentiful as the 1879, so it appears to be a good value for collectors (it's always nice to receive higher rarity for the same price). For a real challenge, try to obtain an 1880 Half in MS67!
