There are two to four known proofs. The finest known is the PCGS graded PR64 from the Reed Hawn collection. The Bibliotheque Nationale Library collection in France has a PR63 (or perhaps PR64) specimen that has been in the collection since 1858. The PR62 Boyd-Kaufman coin is a little controversial as a few experts question its proof status. Obviously this is a very rare proof issue and it has added importance as it is both the first issue of the Seated Liberty half dollar series and it is a one year only type coin.
