The Proof 1855/4 Half Dollar is very rare, with an estimated population of six to eight survivors. Breen attributes the discovery of this Proof overdate to Q. David Bowers, but also notes that there may be other "Normal" dates that have simply never been examined. Whether the date is "normal" or an overdate, any Proof 1855 is a great rarity. As of June 2011, PCGS had certified five examples of the Proof overdate, the finest of which is a Proof-65.
