#1 PR66CAM PCGS grade
Simpson Collection |
1870 was the year in which the new Chief Engraver debuted several new design concepts. Judd-882 combines a proposed Liberty Seated design by Barber with a reverse of the regular-issue Quarter Dollars of the year. Bowers calls these High R7 (7-12 known) in the Judd reference (10th edition), which seems to be supported by the population reports. The finest example graded by PCGS is the PR66CAM owned by the mega-collector, Bob Simpson. Cameo versions are very rare, but there may be some hidden in the non-Cameo versions (PCGS did not always recognize the Cameo and Deep Cameo designations on pattern coins).
