Jaime Hernandez:
The 1948-P Franklin Half Dollar has one of the lower mintages coming in at third place in the circulation strike Franklin Half Dollar series. The only two other issues having a lower mintage than the 1948-P Franklin Half are the 1955-P with a mintage of 2,498,181 and the 1953-P with a mintage of 2,668,120.
The 1948-P is a fairly common issue in circulated grades and even up to MS64 condition. In MS65 grade it becomes a bit of a challenge but still available. In MS66 and higher grades it becomes scarce with about 500 examples known, with most of them having Full Bell Line details. In MS67 grade it is very scarce with less than 5 known and none being finer.
