The 1943 Doubled Die Obverse Washington Quarter is by far the scarcest major doubled die for the entire Washington quarter dollar series. For over twenty years, PCGS has only graded about two dozen 1943 doubled die quarters. Since the coins bring hundreds of dollars even in lower grades, the PCGS population data is a good indicator of this coins scarcity.
These doubled die varieties were probably discovered sometime when the coins were just produced. As many examples still exist in high mint state grades. In fact, the PCGS population data indicates more coins exist in mint state grades than in circulated grades.
The doubling is easily seen on the motto "In God We Trust" and it is also doubled on the word "Liberty."
Finding a coin in any grade is a challenge. Even circulated coins only come up for auction every couple of years. Mint State coins come up for auction even less frequently and when they do, they command very stong premiums.

More than one 1943 Quarter Dollar obverse shows doubling, but one variety shows stronger doubling than any other and is worth a significant premium over the others. That variety is FS-103 (old FS-016.7) and to qualify it must match the images shown above. Doubling can be seen on the entire motto IN GOD WE TRUST (final punching shifted up and left). Doubling is also evident on most of LIBERTY (final punching to the right). If your coin does not match this image it is most likely the less valuable, but still desirable, FS-101 or FS-102.
