Top 50 Peace Dollar VAMs

The "Top 50" Peace Dollar varieties are a distillation of the hundreds of die varieties discovered by the authors of the VAM reference (an acronym of the authors' names of Van Allen and Mallis) into the most important, rarest, and/or most readily discernible varieties. This list, developed by Jeff Oxman and Dr. David Close, includes a lot of doubled dies, dramatic cracks and chips with great nicknames such as "Broken Wing," "Doubled Tiara," "Scar Cheek," etc. Many of these varieties can be still be found unattributed by eagle-eyed collectors, making this a popular area of collecting.
