Rarities In Kingswoood Coin Auction

Irvine, California. Kingswood Coin Auctions is pleased to announce their September 16, Belleville Auction featuring over 1000 lots for every type of collector.

Highlights include some truly spectacular gold coinage, headlined by the 1869 Three Dollar Gold Piece PCGS Proof-65 (Lot 785). PCGS has graded a mere ten examples of this coin, of which only six grade at this level. With stunning eye appeal and surfaces that are incredibly close to flawless, this coin appears notably high end in a Proof-65 holder.

A beautifully toned 1854 Silver Three-Cent Piece PCGS Proof-64 (Lot 132) is without question, a highly desirable offering for type collectors and specialists in the silver three-cent series. Not only have so few examples been graded by PCGS at this level (a scant 11), but the deep blue-green toning with hints of rose iridescence would make the new owner the envy of many. Another attractive offering is an 1857 Flying Eagle Cent PCGS Proof-64 (Lot 15). This is by far the most elusive Proof Flying Eagle cent date. With its deeply reflective fields and gleaming golden brilliance, collectors should be eager to bid aggressively on this jewel.

Kingswood named the auction after Belleville, a rugged placer mining town tucked in the vast San Bernardino Mountains just a short two-hour drive from our Southern California offices. The town was established in 1860 when gold was first discovered there by bear hunter William Holcomb, and it was named after the first baby born there, Belle Van Dusen, daughter of the local blacksmith. By 1880, Belleville and the surrounding valley were virtually vacant once most of the gold was mined out, but at least Belleville could boast that over 450,000 ounces of gold was mined from their little town.

Color images of all 1,018 lots can be found online at www.kingswoodcoin.com. You can also interactively bid by telephone and welcome mail, fax and e-mail bids. The auction closes on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
