2023 Award Winners
PCGS Set Registry is pleased to honor our award winners for the 2023 season. Our members had built more than 165,000+ sets by the close of the awards eligibility deadline of June 30, 2023. This year was another record-setting year for PCGS Set Registry and saw an increase of roughly 10% over last year's set count. PCGS continues to add sets for all levels of collectors, and any member can start a set with just one coin and completely for free!
PCGS recognized over 8,600 sets across all of our categories, which include the Best of Registry, Gold, Platinum, 10 Year, Hall of Fame Award, and many others. PCGS pioneered the Set Registry concept over 20 years ago, and it has evolved into the most powerful inventory management system online within numismatics. In addition, this resourceful tool allows our members to easily organize, value, display superlative imagery, and manage collections in one fun, secure location.
Everyman set categories continued to expand, and this category allows more members to display sets that don’t necessarily have to be in the highest grade to be recognized for a PCGS Set Registry Award. The American Women Quarters launched by the United States Mint in 2022 have been enjoying a growing fanbase, and the 2021 Morgan and Peace Dollars are popular as ever. Our Low Ball sets surpassed the 3,000 threshold--Overall, world coinage is growing across all set categories at a steady pace, though Australia continues to be our largest world country and sees unprecedented growth, and Bulgaria’s growth has more than tripled from two years ago. Meanwhile, modern coins remain a favorite among our collectors.
Our commitment to our members has been steadfast since day one. We continue building the best Set Registry experience possible with feedback from our members, while providing exceptional service. We want to congratulate all of our PCGS Set Registry Award winners for the 2023 season. Without your coins, we would not have a Set Registry--and without your sets we could not display some of the finest collections in the hobby!

Gold is awarded to honor sets that are the best in their category and have been selected by our judging committee to be recognized for outstanding set building. The completeness and quality of each of these sets deserves recognition. Many of these sets have won in the past and some are new recipients of the gold award. Each of the following sets are truly impressive and worthy of the prestige of the gold award.
TOP CLASSIC SETS 1794-1964
High Desert - Complete U.S. Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1792-1964)
One of the most broadly pursued coin sets attempted by U.S. collectors is the complete circulation set spanning the centuries of U.S. Mint production. The problem for so many? The extreme complexity and formidable expense of building such a set -- one that often takes decades to complete. High Desert did it, and check it out. It is astounding... A set worthy of every praise that has come its way.

(Note this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) This is a daunting set, both in terms of price and complexity, given the sheer number of items (over 200) required for completion. The set is nearly 100% complete, lacking only a handful of coins, and has an overall rating of 62.50, which is astounding for this run of coins.

High Desert delivers a feast for the copper-lover's eyes here with this tremendous type set spanning the incredible and nuanced history of America's one-cent coinage.
High Desert - Half Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1793-1857)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection.) High Desert's amazing collection of half cents is truly impeccable. Inclusive of both regular issues and varieties, this set contains a good deal of rarities and some really "neat" coins, too. And, at 100% complete, it's tough to beat with its rating of 61.31.
High Desert - Large Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1839-1857)
(Note this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection.) Some pretty quirky varieties arose during the last decades of the large cent series, and this set recognizes many of them -- and in stunning quality to boot. The grade rating of 67.27 affirms the terrific prestige of this particular set.
D. L. Hansen Collection - Large Cents with Major Varieties (With the four Ultra Rarities), Circulation Strikes and Proof (1793-1857)
D.L. Hansen hits a homer with this resplendent large cent set, inclusive of all the circulation strikes (and the four key rarities), major varieties, and proofs. More than 180 coins call this set home, and it sets the bar high for any early American copper collector who wishes to build a complete large cent set of their own.
Golden State Collection - Large Cents Die Variety Set by Sheldon, Circulation Strikes (1793)
This is a cool set with some great pieces, though the standout in the opinion of this observer is the absolutely gorgeous 1793 Chain AMERI. cent in XF40BN.
D. L. Hansen Collection - Large Cents Die Variety Set by Newcomb, Circulation Strikes (1839-1857)
This is the large cent variety set against which all other such sets both aspiring and approaching completion are measured. It's hard to imagine such a diverse cabinet of early copper could be assembled, though of course it is seen here before our very eyes, and in grades that are virtually (or in many cases actually) unbeatable. Astounding!
The Falcon Collection - Indian Cents Complete Variety Set, Proof (1859-1909)
(Note that this award also includes 2 sub-sets in this collection)Wow, this set of proof Indian Cents with varieties is just amazing -- not only in the sense of completion but also quality. Ringing up at 69.45 on the rating, it's simply sensational.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Lincoln Cents Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1909-1958)
Ask anyone what one of the archetypal U.S. coin sets is, and many responses will dial right back at this one -- the basic set of Lincoln Wheat Cents. Though this basic set is anything but "basic" in terms of quality, what with its rating of 70.01!

What a gorgeous set of proof Lincoln Cents! The color, eye appeal, and overall quality are simply stunning -- a feast for the eyes of any Lincoln enthusiast and a set without rival.

This is an immense set built around a core of the circulation strikes and festooned with an absolutely stunning diversity of varieties -- a feast for the eyes of any Lincoln Cent collector who appreciates excellence.
The Alterity Collection -Lincoln Cents Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1909-Present)
This is a really nice collection of Lincoln cents in both the classic style, with the circulation run, plus the major varieties and proofs. This set is not an easy one to build, especially in the grades we see here.
Legal Two Cents - Shield Two Cents Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1864-1872)
The Two Cent series is a truly intriguing series of coins, short-lived in terms of production run but brimming with lots of amazing collecting opportunities for those who dive deeper into the series than just the regular-issue business strikes. The varieties are really something special, and in the grades we see here, this set is one of a kind.
TDP (tompet38) - Three Cent Nickels Basic Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1865-1889)
What a solid set of Three Cent Nickels here, with both the circulation strikes and proofs in premium-quality grades across the board. Any single example is challenging to acquire, but putting this all together into a comprehensive set -- not to mention some of those very rare later dates -- is a real effort. Kudos to Tompet38!
D. L. Hansen Collection - Three Cent Silvers with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1851-1872)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) Gee willikers, this set with varieties is a stunner to look at. Yes, yes -- it has a rating of 67.31. But let's peer beyond the numbers for a moment and take a gander at the coins. Some of these have some wicked color. Check out that 1871! Bravo, D.L. Hansen!
D. L. Hansen Collection - Shield Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1866-1883)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) This D.L. Hansen set of Shield Nickels is peerless through and through, both in terms of thoroughness (major varieties are included) and quality (check out that set rating of 66.45).
The JDG Trust Collection - Buffalo Nickels Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1913-1938)
The date set of Buffalo Nickels is a good example of how a collector can get in on this tough series without breaking the bank, but the pocketbook clearly wasn't a consideration here. Each coin within a stunner, this set is AWESOME!

(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) What a magnificent set of Buffalo Nickels, with all major varieties and proofs built around a solid core of regular circulation strikes. This is the kind of set one might spend a lifetime building, and it's seen here in living color.
The JDG Trust Collection - Buffalo Nickels Basic Short Set, Circulation Strikes (1934-1938)
The 1934-38 short set of Buffalo Nickels is a terrific primer for the collector venturing into the series, one with its fair share of keys and varieties. Though a smaller run of Buffalo Nickels, this one is no less impressive -- itself a respectable survey of the series that stands tall on its own. Amazing work, JDG. Your Buffalo Nickel sets always astound, no matter the size or scope.
D.L. Hansen Collection - Early Half Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1792-1837)
(Note tha this award also includes 1 subset in this collection) There are some real gems in here... This set of early half dimes with varieties obviously took a great deal of time and resources to complete, and with the quality seen here (a grade rating of 62.77) it is virtually incomprehensible to imagine a better set.
Charles Link - Capped Bust Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1809-1837)
(Note that this award also includes 2 subsets in this collection) The Capped Bust Dimes offer collectors a fantastic challenge, especially when the goal is to build a top-notch set inclusive of varieties. As so many collectors know, the early varieties (of any series) often present greater hurdles due to scarcity and demand. This set is just incredible... The 64.92 rating says everything you need to know about the quality of this set.
The Jason Feldman Seated Dime Collection with Proofs - Liberty Seated Dimes with Major Varieties and 1873-CC No Arrows, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1837-1891)
(Note that this award also includes 2 subsets in this collection) The Liberty Seated Dime series presents challenges for its collectors unlike we see with many other series. But to stop there discounts the true complexity of this particular set, which is certainly the inclusion of the elusive 1873-CC No Arrows, not to mention a number of difficult varieties that we find here in top grades.
D. L. Hansen Collection - Barber Dimes with Major Varieties and 1894-S, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1892-1916)
(Note that this award also includes 2 sub-sets in this collection)We could just stop with the fact that this set includes the storied 1894-S Barber Dime and call it a day. But that's not the way D.L. Hansen sets roll -- they don't stop with "mere" rarity or story alone. They go all the way in checking off many other metrics, too, such as quality, completeness, and "WOW." And that's what this set does. It's the stuff of every Barber Dime collector's dreams.
MERC MADNESS - Mercury Dimes FB with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1916-1945)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) MERC MADNESS strikes again with their absolutely crazy-complete set of Mercury Dimes boasting some of the finest eye appeal imaginable. Sets like this can take decades to build, but as can be seen here the effort is clearly worth it.
MERC MADNESS - Mercury Dimes FB with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1916-1945)
(Note that this award includes 4 sub-sets in this collection) The Mercury Dime remains a favorite with collectors, in part given its classic design but also because the series offers a nice mix of scarce dates and major varieties. This set has it all, and in Full Bands details to boot! Awesome!

This is an amazing set, with its wide-ranging varieties from one of the 20th century's most popular silver series.
Neil Hansin - Twenty Cents with 76-CC, Circulation Strikes (1875-1876)
The Twenty Cent series is one of the most enigmatic of all U.S. sets, and with its ultra-rare 1876-CC and a 66.39 to button it all up, this mighty assemblage of the short-run "Double Dime" wows.
Three Sisters Collection - Draped Bust Quarters Die Variety Set by A.W. Browning, Circulation Strikes (1796-1807)
