Ron Guth:
Eight varieties comprise the entire mintage of 1830 Dimes. Seven of the varieties have what is known as a "Medium 10C"; the eighth variety (JR-2) has what is known as the "Small 10C." Two overdate varieties (JR-4 and JR-5) are subsets of the Medium 10C's.
The PCGS CoinFacts Condition Census includes over one hundred Mint State Medium 10C's, most of which are MS63 or MS64. The best examples are a PCGS MS67 and a PCGS MS67+.
Gordon Wrubel: Here is a tip in determining Medium versus Small 10C varieties: Medium has a "football" shaped 0 in 10C that is the same size as the 1. Small has a round 0 that is smaller than the 1.
