Ron Guth:
In a survey of the members of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club, published in the March 2008 issue of the Gobrecht Journal, the 1860-O Dime was ranked second among the Ten Greatest New Orleans Seated Coins: "This is the rarest New Orleans dime with a mintage of 40,000 pieces and examples are very rare in mint state. The finest known example is the Lovejoy specimen that has been graded NGC MS-67. This coin was sold by Stack's for $50,000 in the Lovejoy sale in October 1990. Another mint state example is the Eliasberg specimen that has been graded MS-64. This piece brought $44,850 when it appeared in the DLRC auction of the Richmond Collection in March 2005. While only 18% of the respondents placed this issue among their top two choices, it received strong support from the majority of members with 52% placing it among their top five coins."
