The 1886 Half Dollar is a great, small-mintage date of only 5,000 coins. By any standard, this is a very rare coin, yet this date is actually very affordable in most grades. Ample supplies of MS62 to MS64 examples are available and even Gems can be found with relative ease. Certification is recommended in all cases because it is often quite difficult to tell the difference between a Prooflike Mint State example and a typical Proof.
