Jaime Hernandez:

The Uncirculated 2000-P Leif Ericson Commemorative Silver Dollars were issued to commemorate the millennium of the New Word’s Discovery by Leif Ericson. The U.S and Iceland both agreed to issue a two-coin set to celebrate this event.

The U.S. Mint issued this 2000-P Leif Ericson Silver Dollar in an Uncirculated and Proof version while Iceland issued a 1000 Kronur coin in a Proof version only. Each coin was available to purchase as a single coin option or as a two-coin set directly from the U.S. Mint. Although Iceland approved the coins the U.S. Mint is the one who actually struck the coins.

Issue Date: June 21, 2000

Pre-Issue Price: $63.00 a set.

Regular Issue price: $687.00 a set.
