Ron Guth:

The 1873 Doubled Die Obverse Dime is a dramatic error that shows wild doubling of the shield held by Liberty's right arm (viewer's left). This is a fairly scarce variety that is very difficult to find in high grade. The finest example appears to be the PCGS AU58 once owned by mega-collectors Bob Simpson and Eugene Gardner, which sold in June 2014 for a record $23,500.
