The 1795 BB-28 is an extremely rare variety that first showed up in a Spink America auction in 1997. The consignor to the Spink America sale purchased the coin from St. Louis dealer, Burdette G. Johnson. The obverse die was completely new and had never been recorded in any die pairings for 1795 Silver Dollars. The reverse die appears on both the BB-23 and BB-28 combinations (the former being another extremely rare variety in its own right). The "discovery" coin has light scratches on the obverse and an obvious defect on the reverse just below and to the right of the center.
