Sheldon 170 is a semi-scarce variety among the Second Hair Style versions (that's the one with a prominent hair curl gelow and to the left of Liberty's ear). The interesting thing about S-170 is that there are numerous circulated versions but only one Mint State example. On top of that, the PCGS MS-62+Brown example is finer than the nearest competitor by a full seven points. This example sold recently as part of the Tom Reynolds Collection of high-grade Large Cents, where it set a record price for the variety of $16,450.
