Ron Guth:

Only two examples of the 1844 Eagle are known in Proof condition. The National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Insitution contains an example graded PR64DCAM (per Garrett and Guth). The second example first appeared on the market in 1946 and has sold at auction only three times since then. In its last appearance (2015), the second example sold as an NGC PR63CAM for $423,000.
