Ron Guth:

The 1845 Quarter is a common date that is plentiful in most grades, even in Mint State. The typical Uncirculated examples is mid-range, usually in MS62 to MS64. Gem examples are quite scarce and none have been identified in MS66 or better grades.

Larry Brigss (1991) identified four different obverse dies and four different reverse dies used in combination to produce all of the business strikes. One of the more interesting varieties of this year is Briggs 3-C, which shows obvious repunching on the 4 and 5 of the date (this variety is also listed as FS-301 in the Cherrypicker's Guide).

Proof examples of this date were struck from completely separate obverse and reverse dies, neither of which was used for business strikes.
