David Akers (1975/88): The 1859 is a very rare date in all grades and is comparable overall to the 1857. The typical 1859 is VF or EF, well struck, with prooflike or partially prooflike surfaces. A few AU pieces are known but I am aware of only one uncirculated piece, an average quality specimen.
