David Akers (1975/88): The 1868-S ranks very high in the series with respect to both overall rarity and condition rarity. It is not as rare as the 1867-S but it is in the same rarity class as the 1866-S Motto and such earlier S-Mint issues as 1858-S, 1859-S, 1862-S, 1863-S and 1865-S Inverted Date.
