David Akers (1975/88): Proofs are very rare but not quite as rare as the proofs of 1865 and 1868 which have identical mintages. Harry Bass pointed out to me that two proof varieties exist of this date with differences in Liberty's hair bun. I would estimate that 10-12 proofs of this date are known to exist.
