Charles Morgan:

The 1794 Liberty Cap Cent, Sheldon 60, Patagonian

The Sheldon 60 variety (#35642) introduces a new die pair: Obverse 29 (later used for S-61, #35645) and Reverse DD.

Struck on a thick planchet, the obverse is characterized by a tightly spaced date and a fifth hair lock (counting from the bottom) that is detached at the tip.

Noyes notes that die clash marks are typically visible, particularly at the top of the obverse. Reverse DD usually exhibits numerous cracks. The right ribbon is positioned high, touching neither the knot nor the bow. The wreath features six berries on the left and only five on the right: one at the top, one in the upper middle, and a cluster of three near the 3 o’clock position.
