Charles Morgan:

The 1794 Liberty Cap Cent, Sheldon 61, Patagonian

As the second variety to utilize Obverse 29, the S-61 (#35645) marks the debut of Reverse EE, a die that reappears later on Sheldon 62 (#35648). Consistent with its obverse designation, this variety is characterized by thick hair details and is typically struck on a thick planchet. Key identifiers for the obverse include a tightly spaced date and a detached fifth lock of hair. On the reverse, the variety is immediately distinguishable by a final "0" in the fraction that is punched noticeably high, as well as a right stem that is significantly shorter than the left. Collectors should also expect to find the minor die cracks and clash images, which are typical of the Sheldon 61.
