The Sheldon-65 variety (#35654) reuses Obverse 32 in a marriage with the newly introduced Reverse HH. Initially appearing in a perfect state, the obverse die eventually develops characteristic cracks; in later die states, the reverse also exhibits heavy cracking, most notably a pronounced vertical fracture extending from 12 o'clock through the top of the wreath. As with the S-64 (#35708), the deeply cut dentils provide excellent protection for the attractive details of the hair and liberty cap. The reverse is easily identified by very short stems on both sides and large, bold berries—particularly the two situated closest to the left side of the bow.
In terms of collectibility, the S-65 remains one of the more common 1794 cent varieties; however, the date still poses a challenge for collectors seeking problem-free specimens in grades of PCGS XF45 and above.
