This is the first Doubled Die variety in the Lincoln cent series. However, there are two different Doubled Dies for this issue. The Type 1 is the stronger of the two Doubled Dies and the one that commands a higher premium.
The 1909 V.D.B. Doubled Die Type 1 shows strong doubling to the east of the 1 the first 9 digit and also on the 0 on the date. There is also doubling towards the east of the letters, RTY of Liberty.
There are probably about 500 or so 1909 V.D.B. Doubled Dies in existence in all grades combined.
